Jeff Horstman has decades of experience in the environmental sector, and most recently served as the Miles Wye Riverkeeper and the Executive Director for ShoreRivers. His wife, Beth, is a well-known local photographer specializing in waterscapes and wildlife. Jeff and Beth will be leading a morning paddle from Turner’s Creek to Lily Pad Pond. Throughout the tour, Jeff will be providing identification on native flora and fauna, discuss local land use, and how ShoreRivers’ mission fits into the Eastern Shore landscape. Beth will be taking photos of the group, and offering advice on how to take great nature photos while balancing in a kayak!

As a member of the Midshore Riverkeeper legacy organization, and a pivotal player in the merger that created ShoreRivers, Jeff has unique insight into the nonprofit landscape and what it takes to mobilize effective grassroots change in the environmental movement. Though the lily pads will be almost full size and edible, participants are encouraged to bring snacks, water, sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, and bug spray. A safety lesson and paddle instruction will be provided before the paddle.
