A river-friendly yard is one that mimics the natural environment to benefit water quality. There are countless ways to make your property more river-friendly, including but not limited to:
Replacing turf grass with native species (USFWS Native Plants for Wildlife Habitat and Conservation Landscaping is a good resource)
Testing your soil every three years
Installing rain gardens or other conservation landscaping
Maintaining healthy buffers along the waterfront
Need some help getting started? Attend (or host!) a River-Friendly Yards workshop in your area or contact Darran Tilghman at firstname.lastname@example.org to set up a site visit on your property.
