Join ShoreRivers and the St. Michaels Marina for a fun, family friendly day celebrating the importance of submerged aquatic vegetation (SAV), also known as Bay grasses! Our SAV Education & Awareness Day is designed to inspire stewardship of these vital underwater habitats through interactive activities, educational exhibits, and hands-on learning for all ages.
Bay grasses play a critical role in the health of the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries. They improve water quality; reduce shoreline erosion; provide food and shelter for fish, crabs, and waterfowl; and help keep our rivers healthy. Unfortunately, SAV beds are vulnerable to damage from boat propellers, declining water quality, and shoreline disturbance. This event will highlight simple actions that everyone can take to help protect these important ecosystems.
Stop by the St. Michaels Marina anytime between 10am–4pm. to explore interactive games, educational displays and handouts, and live tanks featuring bay grasses and other Chesapeake Bay critters. Throughout the day, we'll also be hosting raffle giveaways with prizes generously donated by ShoreRivers and local businesses, including Foxy's, Carpenter Street Saloon, The Christmas Shop, Pemberton Pharmacy & Gift, and more.
Whether you're a boater, angler, local resident, or simply curious about the Chesapeake Bay, there's something for everyone. We hope you'll join us to learn how healthy Bay grasses help create healthy rivers!
