Join ShoreRivers and River City Cruise Company for a memorable journey along the Choptank River, where history, wildlife, and community come together on the water. Aboard a comfortable pontoon boat departing from Denton, this guided expedition explores the river’s long-standing role as a vital transportation corridor — shaping local communities and playing a significant part in the story of the Underground Railroad.
As we cruise, you’ll also experience the river through a naturalist’s lens. Witness the osprey life cycle in action and learn how these iconic birds depend on healthy waterways to thrive. ShoreRivers educators will share insights into osprey behavior, nesting, and the conservation efforts helping to protect their future in the Chesapeake Bay.
This dual-themed experience blends cultural heritage with environmental education, offering a deeper connection to the Choptank and its surrounding communities. Along the way, enjoy a delicious onboard meal prepared by a local food vendor featuring fresh ingredients sourced from nearby farms and waters — celebrating the region’s rich agricultural and maritime traditions.

Expedition Registration & Cancelation Policy
ShoreRivers Expeditions are made possible this year through generous support from the National Park Service Chesapeake Gateways Program and the Chesapeake Bay Trust, allowing us to offer these experiences free of charge to our community. As part of this shared investment in accessible, hands-on environmental education, we ask participants to register with intention and a commitment to attend.
Each expedition has limited capacity to ensure a meaningful experience. When spots go unused due to last-minute cancelations or no-shows, it impacts our staff, partners, and fellow community members who may have been eager to participate.
