Expedition: Kayak with Sassafras Riverkeeper

  • Turners Creek Landing 13761 Turners Creek Road Kennedyville, MD, 21645 United States (map)

Join Zack Kelleher, Sassafras Riverkeeper, for a Guided Eco-Paddle to explore the lotus filled tributaries of the Sassafras River. Participants will paddle 30 minutes to a nearby tidal pond to experience the beauty of America’s largest Native flower, the American Lotus, which makes Maryland’s Eastern Shore a special destination for residents and visitors alike.

Along the way, Zack will share how ShoreRivers works to protect and restore local waterways and why clean, healthy rivers are essential to the region’s growing eco-tourism economy. This expedition highlights the partnership between ShoreRivers and the tourism community, demonstrating how vibrant waterways support recreation, local businesses, and the overall vitality of the Eastern Shore.

Expedition Registration & Cancelation Policy

ShoreRivers Expeditions are made possible this year through generous support from the National Park Service Chesapeake Gateways Program and the Chesapeake Bay Trust, allowing us to offer these experiences free of charge to our community. As part of this shared investment in accessible, hands-on environmental education, we ask participants to register with intention and a commitment to attend.

Each expedition has limited capacity to ensure a meaningful experience. When spots go unused due to last-minute cancelations or no-shows, it impacts our staff, partners, and fellow community members who may have been eager to participate.
