Step aboard for a unique journey through the rich natural and cultural history of Maryland’s Eastern Bay. This guided pontoon boat expedition will explore the story of Shantytown, a once a vibrant enclave supporting the region’s seafood industry and its connection to the Waterman’s Heritage Trail.
As we cruise the waterways, you’ll also gain a deeper understanding of the river’s living ecosystem. Participants will observe underwater grass beds (Submerged Aquatic Vegetation) and learn how these critical habitats improve water quality, support fisheries, and indicate overall river health.
This dual-themed experience blends storytelling, science, and scenic views for an unforgettable time on the water. A locally catered meal will be served on board, offering a taste of the region while you take in the views.

Expedition Registration & Cancelation Policy
ShoreRivers Expeditions are made possible this year through generous support from the National Park Service Chesapeake Gateways Program and the Chesapeake Bay Trust, allowing us to offer these experiences free of charge to our community. As part of this shared investment in accessible, hands-on environmental education, we ask participants to register with intention and a commitment to attend.
Each expedition has limited capacity to ensure a meaningful experience. When spots go unused due to last-minute cancelations or no-shows, it impacts our staff, partners, and fellow community members who may have been eager to participate.
