As a Maryland Climate Corps member, Rory will have hands-on involvement with various ShoreRivers efforts, developing skills in project implementation and monitoring, research, and outreach. Throughout her time with the Corps, she will collaborate with both the Agriculture and Restoration and Community Engagement departments — assisting in implementing and monitoring of restoration projects and best management practices, and supporting our Tree the Shore and Marylanders Grow Oysters program.

Rory was born and raised in Henrico, Virginia, but relocated to Maryland to complete her undergrad at Washington College. She graduated in December 2024 with a B.S. in environmental science and political science. During her time at Washington College, Rory held various internship positions that allowed her to work with the Kent County Health Department’s environmental health sector, monitor field sparrow behaviors with Foreman’s Branch Bird Observatory, and restore oyster populations in the bay with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. She also enjoyed a brief study abroad experience in Bermuda learning about their local ecosystems and biodiversity. These opportunities have helped her better appreciate the hands-on aspect of protecting our local waterways and ecosystems.

In her free time, Rory enjoys reading, getting outside, spending time with friends and family, and exploring restaurants and coffee shops.

The Maryland Climate Corps — an initiative of the Maryland Department of Service and Civic Innovation that is administered by the Chesapeake Bay Trust — is designed to support young adults by growing their professional goals, fostering career exploration, and developing new skills. Through this program, participants are encouraged to identify where their talents and passion intersect, guiding fellows toward a career that positively impacts the environment and their communities.
