advocacy volunteers

Every January-April, our Riverkeepers spend their days in Annapolis proposing legislation, meeting with legislators, and testifying at hearings. Riverkeepers are the voice of our rivers in the legislative session but we need more people to speak out for their communities and rivers.

The Advocacy Volunteer program gives volunteers the training, resources, and opportunities to learn about the legislative process and feel empowered to take action to support clean rivers. Advocacy volunteers will be trained on how to track bills, write testimony, contact representatives, and receive regular communications with ways to take action.

Advocacy Volunteers will have at least one touch point every month during the Maryland legislative session. These will vary from virtual trainings to in-person lobby days and action events. Advocacy Volunteers also receive a “Weekly Brief” email during session, which provides updates on ShoreRivers leadership bills and bills we are tracking, provides action items, and shares reminders and important dates.
