ShoreRivers is seeking a part-time, seasonal field educator to enthusiastically deliver environmental education field trips and classroom lessons to elementary and high school students. In this support role, the seasonal Field Educator joins an Education Department of four full time staff who work as a team to get students outside learning about their local environment on field trips and school grounds. The ideal candidate is an energetic team player who respects children, adults, and the environment and has verbal communication and environmental interpretation skills.
The Field Educator reports to the Education Programs Manager and will not work out of an office, instead reporting to programming at schools and locations throughout Dorchester, Talbot, Queen Anne’s, and Kent counties. The employee must be flexible to travel frequently between counties and work within typical school day hours of 7:30am–3pm.
This part-time, seasonal position offers $18 per hour from September 14 – December 11, 2027 with a flexible 20-hour work week. There is an opportunity to extend the position from March – May, 2027. Employees must live in the Eastern Shore communities ShoreRivers works in.

Responsibilities
Lead environmental education programs on field trips, on school grounds, and in the classroom. Program topics focus on water quality, pollinators, aquatic species, habitat, and local land use.
Maintain and prepare education supplies and equipment.
Provide program feedback and ideas to improve activities as needed.
Provide written and visual content for ShoreRivers’ communications, including social media and newsletters, representing the Education Department.
Other duties as assigned or necessary.

The employee must have a strong commitment to the well-being of children and the local environment. The employee must represent ShoreRivers professionally while creating a fun, welcoming, and safe atmosphere, and subscribe to representing ShoreRivers’ mission and statement of inclusion.
Experience & Education
Working toward, or obtained a minimum of an associate’s degree in an education, science, environmental, or multidisciplinary studies.
At least one year or more of experience teaching or working with children.
Experience in outdoors including trail walking, canoeing and kayaking, and basic plant and animal identification.
skills & technical abilities
Must be able to pass a background check.
A team-player who is confident in sharing creative ideas and communicating with volunteers and teachers.
Physically able to walk over 2 miles in a day, lift 50 lbs., and launch students in canoes, and then do it again the next day!
Confident around water and in a canoe and kayak. Must be willing to be trained in canoe water safety, instruction, and rescue.
Able to follow data collection protocols and interpret data including graphs, charts, etc.
Committed to advancing Diversity, Equity, Justice, and Inclusion.
Familiar with geography of local waterways and communities, but does not have to be an expert in ecology.
Prepared, organized, and able to be flexible and responsive to changing situations.
Conversational Spanish-language skills are preferred, but not required.
