Choptank Riverkeeper & Director of Riverkeeper Programs Matt Pluta will lead a 2-hour, full moon paddle on San Domingo Creek to Hambleton Islands in Broad Creek, a tributary of the Choptank River. This section of the Choptank provides immense recreational and economic value to our local communities. During the paddle, Matt will discuss with the group the environmental challenges the Choptank faces in terms of water quality, specifically nutrient and sediment pollution. Paddlers will learn about oyster restoration, submerged aquatic vegetation (SAV), and the volunteer programs ShoreRivers organizes to restore these critical species which benefit the long-term health of the river. Paddling at night is a unique and special way to experience nature. After periods of discussion, the group will be encouraged to paddle silently and take in the sights and sounds around them, all under the gaze of the full moon! Bring headlamps, reflective gear, water, and fluorescent or glow in the dark clothing. Intermediate paddling experience encouraged.
