Join us for an educational tour of Unicorn Lake to observe the dragons of the insect world. Unicorn Lake is home to a variety of ecosystems with a great diversity of insects. Participants will learn how to tell a dragonfly from a damselfly and to identify a dozen or more local species. The group will observe them feeding on insects, defending territories, mating, and laying eggs. Throughout the tour, Professor Gillespie will be discussing the biology of these beautiful creatures, their fascinating life-cycle, and the importance of water quality to a functioning insect community. Wear shoes that don't mind getting wet and bring binoculars and cameras if you have them.
