This expedition travels to the shores of Eastern Bay in Sherwood, MD, to tour Ferry Cove Oyster Hatchery. Stephan Abel, President and CEO of Ferry Cove, will guide participants through the facility showcasing how they produce oyster larvae and seed for use in the commercial fishing and aquaculture industries throughout the region.
Ferry Cove is a nonprofit committed to supporting the cultural history of the watermen community, using applied research to seek new ways to drive the economic future of the local seafood industry and exploring ways to blend commerce, natural resource protection, education, and research to address coastal resiliency related issues.
Participants will also enjoy a tasting of locally farmed oysters paired with beer and wine.

Expedition Registration & Cancelation Policy
ShoreRivers Expeditions are made possible this year through generous support from the National Park Service Chesapeake Gateways Program and the Chesapeake Bay Trust, allowing us to offer these experiences free of charge to our community. As part of this shared investment in accessible, hands-on environmental education, we ask participants to register with intention and a commitment to attend.
Each expedition has limited capacity to ensure a meaningful experience. When spots go unused due to last-minute cancelations or no-shows, it impacts our staff, partners, and fellow community members who may have been eager to participate.
