Cambridge Wild & Scenic Film Festival is a Community Hit

ShoreRivers (previously Midshore Riverkeeper Conservancy) and Dorchester Citizens for Planned Growth (DCPG) hosted the 3rd annual Cambridge Wild & Scenic Film Festival at Gallery 447 on Friday evening, February 16th. The event was a blockbuster success, with attendance and proceeds double that of last year! The Wild & Scenic Film Festival is a unique, nationwide festival that provides award winning, short environmental and adventure films that shed light on environmental challenges and inspire community action. The local event, supported by host sponsors Hyatt Regency and Integration and Application Network at Horn Point, is a fundraiser that supports the important clean-water outreach of ShoreRivers and DCPG.

This year's lineup included films that featured rivers as far away as New Mexico, and community activism as close as Baltimore. Whether local or global, the films presented environmental themes that ring true in our Chesapeake rivers: our communities have spiritual, economical, and recreational ties to waterways that must be protected. These themes were accentuated by sponsors that supported the event—Choptank Heritage Trail, Environmental Concern, Izaak Walton League Mid-Shore Chapter, and Yacht Maintenance Company—businesses and organizations built on a clean, healthy local environment.

Before the film screening, the Wild & Scenic Film Festival hosted a happy hour and over 100 film goers had the opportunity to support ShoreRivers and DCPG through a “River of Giving” that benefited ShoreRivers’ education programs and a mystery wine raffle. Proceeds from the event directly support clean water initiatives and community programming through ShoreRivers and DCPG. Additional community sponsors included: Bay Country Bakery, Boettger Builders, Keith Campbell Foundation for the Environment, Composite Yacht, Ferry Boat Marina, Mike Fleagle and Carol Crutchfield, Landing Marine Survey, Charles and Pamela McPherson, Stoney Cove Seafood, and WCEM the HEAT.
